Meet the Kyckr Team — Ellen Thornberry, International Customer Services and Support
As we’re heads down building the future of KYC compliance, we wanted to take a moment to introduce you to the people who are hard at work turning the Kyckr vision into a reality.
For the next interview of our Meet the Team Series, please meet Ellen Thornberry, International Customer Services and Support.
What do you do at Kyckr?
I work on the information team. I only started working here a few months ago so I am still learning the ropes! Essentially, the information team is in charge of sending documents to customers, and handling customer queries.
What did you want to grow up to be when you were a kid?
I always wanted to be a teacher up until I found out you needed to be near fluent in the Irish language. That was the last straw unfortunately! I studied Irish from age 5 to 18 years old, and yet I can still barely speak a full sentence! I can speak more French than Irish – that shows how difficult the language is!
What’s the most exciting part of your day to day work?
I love when we receive a large batch orders for documents. Although it was daunting at first, I love the challenge of it and feels so satisfying to finish them all within the time frame.
What do you feel makes Kyckr different from other companies you’ve worked at?
From my first day, I instantly felt like I belonged here. Before Kyckr, I worked predominantly in hospitality and I felt as if my work was never appreciated. It’s the complete opposite here, and I love it. There is so much support from everyone.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy doing anything that makes me happy! So that means watching Netflix, reading books, cooking etc. I love watching The Office US. It’s my absolute favourite series – it cheers me up. I’m also big into walking and strength training. Lifting weights is really empowering and puts me in a good mood.
Who inspires you the most? Why?
Hanya Yanagihara, the author of my favourite book ‘A Little Life’. I’m in awe at how fantastically written the book is.
What’s your favourite movie of all time?
I’m not huge into movies, but I do like a good action movie like the Bourne Identity films.
If you could visit any country in the world, where would it be? Why?
Japan. The culture, food, scenery – I love it all! I would love to go there someday.
If you could have lunch with any person, who would it be? Why?
My nanny, who I miss dearly. I would give anything just to sit down with her for a nice Sunday roast and gossip about silly things.
