Meet the Kyckr Team — Steve Lamb, Head of Product Management

Kyckr

As we're heads down building the future of KYC compliance, we wanted to take a moment to introduce you to the people who are hard at work turning the Kyckr vision into a reality.

For the third interview of our Meet the Team Series, please meet Kyckr's Head of Product Management, Steve Lamb.

Meet the Kyckr Team — Steve Lamb, Head of Product Management

What do you do at Kyckr?

I head up the Product Management team, making sure that we build products that delight our customers and that we’re responsive to changes in their needs and wants. Day-to-day that involves everything from directing our development team and researching new product ideas to empowering our sales team in their efforts to take our services to market. It’s a hands-on role which requires a combination of strategic and more tactical thinking – no two days are the same!

What did you want to grow up to be when you were a kid?

I remember wanting to be a test pilot when I was about seven (that didn’t last long), but for most of my teen years I really wanted to be a graphic designer.  I’m still a bit obsessed with design (typography especially), but it’s more of a hobbyist pursuit now.

What's the most exciting part of your day to day work?

Spending time out on the road with customers (over video call since March…), whether that’s interviewing existing clients about how they’re finding our services or speaking to prospects who have a problem or opportunity that I think we can help with.

What do you feel makes Kyckr different from other companies you’ve worked at?

We have a fairly flat structure and a culture of everyone’s opinions counting. Overall it feels like we’re all pulling in the same direction and that ideas matter, regardless of the seniority of the person suggesting them.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

My main hobby and side hustle is producing Dance music. I’ve been a DJ for about 12 years and have been making and releasing music commercially for about the last eight. It’s taken me around the world and I’ve met some really interesting people who have gone on to become some of my best friends. It also couldn’t be more different from working as a Product Manager in B2B data – so there’s a nice balance!

Who inspires you the most? Why?

I’m a competitive person (in a friendly sense!), so seeing my friends and colleagues achieving tends to inspire me to try and better myself in some way. I’m lucky enough to have a group of friends who are all, in their own way, doing some incredible things in their respective areas of work so that keeps me inspired.

What’s your favourite movie of all time?

Apocalypse Now. I just love everything about it, from the performances and soundtrack to the philosophical subtext. Embarrassing but true story – I went to watch the 4K restoration at the IMAX in Waterloo alone last year as a birthday present to myself. Shockingly, I couldn’t convince any of my friends to come and watch a 40 year-old, 4-hour long war film with me on a Wednesday night in the middle of Summer.

If you could visit any city in the world, where would it be? Why?

Even though I’ve been there a few times, I’d have to say New York. Just being there feels like you’re walking around a film set, plus there’s something for everyone. I love London, but New York pips it for me as the best city in the world.

If you could have lunch with any person, who would it be? Why?

A difficult choice, but I’ll go for Paul McCartney. Like many musicians I’m a Beatles fanatic and there are a million questions I could pepper at him over a long lunch. I’m sure Paul would also love to hear about the advances Kyckr are making in the KYC data world – so it would be a win-win!
