Sweden Company Registry (2026 Update)
Sweden’s company registry, the Companies Registration Office, is easy to use for basic searches, but it makes UBO verification extremely difficult, particularly for compliance teams of non-EEA obliged entities.
This article is for KYB professionals seeking Swedish company information. We’ll explain what data is available, how to access it, and how to verify the ultimate beneficial owner of a Swedish company.
Methodology: The Kyckr Team accessed the registry on February 2, 2026.
What Swedish Company Data Can Be Accessed?
Basic: Company name, registration number, registered address, activities, and status.
Legal: Status and legal proceedings.
Financial: Turnover, debts, and assets.
People: Signatories and officers.
Ownership: Capital and beneficial ownership (but not shareholders).
What About Shareholder Data?
Shareholder information isn’t available on the database.
According to the official website, “The Swedish Companies Registration Office does not register shareholders of a limited company.”
However, share registers “must be made available to the public” upon request. They are held in the company’s offices.
How to Conduct a Swedish Company Search
1. Go to the Website.
Go to the Bolagsverket website and click ‘Find company information’.
https://bolagsverket.se/en/sokforetagsinformation/omsokforetagsinformation.3045.html
2. Search the Foretagsinfo Portal.
The online portal, available in Swedish and English, provides 5 search options:
Companies: Registered companies and associations.
Persons: For this, you must search by Personal Identity Number.
Cases: Ongoing legal cases. Must search by case number or registration number. Useful for finding Annual Reports not yet filed.
“Other business”: Includes insurance intermediaries, the anti-money laundering register, securities institutes, and tied agents.
Statistics: Bulk data sets on companies that are updated on the first weekday of every month.
Click ‘Companies’.
3. Search for a Company.
Search by business name or registration number. Click ‘Search’. The data returned is limited:
Company name.
Registration number.
Place of registration (e.g., Solna, Falun).
Status (bankruptcy proceedings, dissolved, etc).
Advice: You have the option to sort the list by name or company number.
4. Inspect Company.
The company’s profile includes the following data:
Business name.
Number.
Address.
Registered office.
Type of business.
Registration date.
For more information, you must sign up for an account and log in.
5. Sign Up.
For more information, such as historic data and English certificates, you must create an account. This requires the following:
Mobilit BankID.
BankID.
Freja+.
Foreign eID.
The problem: All these require you to be a Swedish or EU resident.
Bolagsverket’s Available Company Documents
On the company or association’s profile, you will see the list of documents available to purchase – even without an account. This is what we found on February 2, 2026:
Certificate of Registration (SEK 125): Business name, registration number, date of registration, address of the company, officials, signatory power and business activities.
Annual Report (SEK 75): Turnover, result, assets and debts.
Articles of Association (SEK 75): Business name, business activities, registered office, share capital, financial year and possible optional articles.
Beneficial Ownership Register (SEK 125). On February 2, 2026, we were still able to access beneficial ownership information, despite the passage of the 6AMLD.
Current Assignments: (SEK 75): Registration number, the business name and when the assignment was registered.
Once added to the cart and the payment is made, you will receive the company documents by email.
APIs and Open Data
APIs
Bolagsverket provides Application Programming Interface (API) access that returns company data. To access it, you must:
Sign an agreement.
Invoice monthly.
Pay SEK 6250 upfront fee (includes VAT). Following that, users pay depending on usage.
Upcoming changes: UBO data will be accessible by API (to Swedish residents) soon.
But why limit yourself to Sweden? You can access structured company data from Sweden, and 299 other company registers worldwide – all via API or online portal, in one place.
Open Data
Statistics Sweden provides vast data sets, available for free in machine-readable format, obtainable via the same RESTful API as the Companies Registration Office.
This includes basic information, status, postal address, SNI codes, business description, and more.
Sweden’s Ultimate Beneficial Ownership (UBO) System
Following the 6th Anti-Money Laundering Directive (6AMLD), UBO information on Swedish companies is only accessible to Swedish obliged entities and competent authorities, and those with a provable “legitimate interest”.
H3: Who Can Access UBO Data in 2026
Since the passage of the 6th Anti-Money Laundering Directive (6AMLD), only Swedish competent authorities and obliged entities get direct access to the UBO register.
Access to the register is limited to EEA and Swedish residents. It requires the following IDs: Mobilit BankID, BankID, Freja+, or a foreign eID.
H3: Legitimate Interest Access (LIA) Explained
Firms and persons with a “legitimate interest” – for example, third-country obliged entities and journalists – can access the register.
According to legal advice issued by Sweden’s Ministry of Finance, LIA users will not “be subject to a new assessment each time.”
They will be granted three-year LIA certificates. Moreover, they will respect LIA certificates from other EU countries.
H3: The Current System Glitch (Ordering Without Login)
While you can’t search the register, users can request the UBO filing on the legal entity’s page. You can order it in English or Swedish for SEK 125 (roughly £10).
The Kyckr Team completed this on February 2, 2026.
H3: Upcoming API Access for Swedish Residents
UBO data returnable via API was planned for the autumn of 2025, but it still hasn’t been rolled out.
